What have we been working on?
Last month we gave some insight into our plans for pets and shared our real life pets that keep Doctor Necrosis running. We also revised our newly added citizens by revamping their sprites, animations, and AI to make them a little more unique.
This month we are taking more steps to our demo release. We refined our AI systems for citizens, creatures, and pets, and we believe it will work well for all future NPCs and other entities we add in the future. We have begun work on building interiors so buildings will be enterable like the tavern, shops, and the NPC’s homes. We were going to leave this feature out of the demo, but we felt it would make the game less immersive, so we plan to make it ready for the demo release. We also made a completely custom game launcher with a game updater so you can always make sure you have the most up to date version of the game. The game launcher includes account information, news about the game’s development, and a game launch screen.
As always, we have continued working on our “medical” research to ensure we are as accurate as possible when it comes to in-game items used for crafting, brewing, or just consuming. This includes acquiring new historically relevant medical books and journals to ensure our game is accurate.
Now comes the news we did not want to have to announce. With all these new additions, reworks of mechanics, and new mechanics recommended to us, we must push back the launch of the demo version of the game to make sure everything works as it should. We are doing this to add new features to the game after launch instead of rushing development to add basic mechanics. Once we have worked out a release date, it will be a guaranteed release date. We also want to set the benchmark of expectation for our future games based on our first.
We like to be completely honest and transparent from the get-go, as most of you have learned over on our discord server just by talking to us. Unfortunately, sometimes we set unrealistic goals for ourselves, and we do not always realize it until it is a little too late. We are a two-person team, and I am a one-person developer and this being my first project, I have come to understand my original goals just were not realistic. So for that, we do apologize; we are learning, and we promise to do better in the future! We will always keep you updated every step of the way because without you there is no us.
What’s Next?
We will continue building out the quest and disease generation and building out the citizens, so we have at least 30 main story citizens and additional background NPCs that will have mini-quests. Adding all of these citizens includes creating schedules, generating quests, crafting storylines, and writing dialog for each one.
We will be releasing updates throughout the entire development process and posting gameplay videos whenever possible as we lead up to our demo release.
